Title Letter

Scope & Content Handwritten letter is one sheet with address on back. It was written by General Hernandez from St. Augustine to Wm. N.H. Fitzhugh on January 20, 1853. Hernandez is writing to ask Fitzhugh to come work for him raising sugar cane. The second item is the Florida Star published by Charles Coe in New Smyrna. This is from 1878 Volume 2 No. 22. FHS has a bound copy of the Florida Star which includes this first issue, but covers 1877-78. The third item is a portion of a book entitled "Cyclopedia of Useful Knowledge." This portion contains an article about St. Augustine with line drawings of the public square and provides a detailed description of the town at that time. The fourth item is a yellow railway schedule titled "The St. Augustine Route" of the Jacksonville, St. Augustine & Halifax River Railway from March 7, 1892.
