Collection consists of 2 receipts.
The largest is dated 1/1/1841 and is a receipt for hire of a slave named Matilda to Walthall Hatcher and R.H. Timmons in the town of Petersburg, Virginia. They are bound to M.A.Orgain & R.A. Orgain for $60.00. She is to be delivered on 12/25/1841 with a spring suit of clothes in April as well as a shift, blanket and pair of good shoes & stockings.
The second, small receipt is also Walthall Hatcher receipt for paying his taxes in Chestefield County in 1833 for tax on 372 acres of land, 11 Negroes, 4 horses, 2 white & 11 Negro tihes. Paymet is for $16.22 signed by J.B. Good.
