Photo of Holatto-Micco (Billy Bowlegs) the last chief of the Seminoles in Florida, sailed from Fort Myers. May 1858 ( Photo Bureau of American Ethnology, Smithsonion Institution) Note on the back: Tribe (Mikasuki Seminole) Billy Bowlegs. Leader during 3rd Seminole War (1856-58). Deported 1858, via New Orleans to Indian Territory. Died 1859 or perhaps 1864. 4 ¼ inches high. The photo is in a protective cover. |
